Tomasson Updates

Well, it's been awhile since I've been able to update the blog, but nothing too terribly exciting has been going on, really. Some of you might know that I'm being treated for gestational diabetes, which forces me to prick my fingers seven times a day to monitor my glucose. Luckily, I've been able to control it quite well with diet alone, and we hope that I won't need any insulin before Xander's ready to meet the world. And it comes with a perk...I get monthly sonograms, so we can peek in and see how big he's getting. The doctors want to make sure that he doesn't get too big for a natural delivery. As of 4/28 he was about 3lbs, and he looked great.

In other news, David will be having surgery on June 12th to remove a polyp from his vocal cord. He's been fighting chronic hoarsness for the past couple of years and finally went to see a speacialist. Besides not being allowed to speak for four days after the surgery (I'll believe it when it really happens), there's not any long term issues he needs to worry about. Hopefully this operation will help him feel better and he'll be back to normal when his son is born...it'll be nice to hear him sing to Xander.

Other than those minor health matters, we were finally able to finish decorating the nursery. The only thing missing is the glider chair that was special ordered and should arrive the beginning of June.

25 Weeks

Just thought I mustered enough courage to post this "belly shot"....

Xander's Nursery

Well, it's been a very busy spring break for David. He has spent his entire week off getting up early and doing all kinds of chores, especially getting Xander's room ready for his big arrival. Luckily Pete was in town and lent a helping hand with the painting...THANKS!

This room has made a remarkable transformation this week from being Bert's "Kennel" to a little boy's room.

I was able to take off a half day on Wednesday (our anniversary) and help put up the border. It turned out so cute!

The crib and dresser/changer also arrived this week. We'll work on putting the crib together next weekend.

It's a BOY!!!

Everyone, please meet Alexander Leifur Tomasson...

Xander is a perfectly healthy baby boy measuring right on time. We were both very excited to hear the news and now we're very busy preparing for our son's arrival.

Just in case there was any doubt...

Baby T

I went in for a Nuchal Translucency Scan this morning, which is an ultrasound/blood test to measure for risks of Down's Syndrome and other Trisomy genetic disorders. All of the measurements were within normal limits, but we need to wait about a week for the blood results (but at my age and no family history, there's not much of a chance that anything would show up).

Baby T was squirming around nearly the entire 30 minute scan. He/she was twisting and turning and jumping back like he/she wanted to do a back flip. Maybe we have a little gymnast in the making to take after Grandpa Curry. He/she was about 3 inches in length crown to rump, and had a strong heartbeat at 176 beats per minute.

I have another appointment on February 6th, to hopefully find out the gender. I think we're all eagarly anticipating this day so we can start the shopping spree!

You can see my eyes, nose and mouth here...I was in the middle of executing a back handspring with a triple twist.

Uh oh....I'm already sucking my thumb!

It's nap time now...See you again in 4 weeks! Maybe I won't be bashful, and you can find out if I'm a little boy or girl...???

Merry Christmas! (a little late...)

Well, I'd say the Tomasson's had a pretty good Christmas this year! First, on Christmas Eve, we had an interactive Christmas with David's family in England, thanks to Skype. It was really fun watching everyone thousands of miles away open their gifts. It was great to see everyone! That night, we made our way over to David's mom's house for dinner. As always, she outdid herself again! She's a great cook, and we look forward to her Christmas dinner all year long. After getting more comfortable, we gathered around the tree and exchanged gifts. Everyone made a killing this year. Thanks for all of our goodies! Christmas day came and we went to my grandmother's house for a late lunch. Again, we ate like kings! All in all, we had a great holiday, and we're looking forward even more to next year, when our little one is here to celebrate with!

Even Bert made a haul during his first Christmas. He sure did enjoy these massive bones!

Our Baby's First Pictures

We had our first real doctor's appointment this afternoon, and we got a peek at our little one. He or she is about 3/4 inch long crown to rump, and resembles a gummie bear. It was a beautiful site and we even got to hear a very strong heartbeat! It was kind of dark in the room, but I think David was tearing up a little...And of course I was too.
It's amazing how something so tiny can wreak so much havoc! I'm still fighting morning sickness, and the doctor wasn't very encouraging when she said that I'll probably have another week of even worse sickness before it slowly started subsiding. After seeing what we saw today, though, I know it's so worth it!
